In the Peninsula, the northern half of the Larsen C Ice Shelf experienced up to 60 days of melt between November 1 and March 15. However, these small totals represent an above average melt season for the Getz and Roi Baudoin Ice Shelves. Melting of the Antarctic Ice Sheet from November to mid-March followed a pattern, where both sides of the Antarctic Peninsula had extensive and frequent melting while elsewhere along the coast patches of melt rarely exceeded 10 days for the season (Figure 1a). Reds indicate more melt than average blues indicate less melt.Ĭredit: E. These maps show the number of melt days from February 1 to March 15, 2023, as a difference from average relative to the 1990 to 2020 reference period. We post analysis periodically as conditions warrant.Ĭlick an image for a high-resolution version.įigure 1c. Get daily satellite images and information about melting on the Greenland ice sheet. Occasional short-term delays and data outages do occur and are usually resolved in a few days. However, visitors may notice that the date on the image is occasionally more than one day behind. The daily image update is produced from near-real-time operational satellite data, with a data lag of approximately one day. The daily image update isn’t current why? Read about the data and other problems which occasionally occur in near-real-time data. We are working to improve the ice sheet mask. This issue does not affect trends for the entire ice sheet. This is a false melt signal from seasonal snow and patchy ice areas, where our method of determining surface melting does not work. Note that the northeast coast (northern Peary Land and Kronprince Christian Land) is showing erroneous melt pixels. The Cumulative Melt Days image (right) shows the total number of days that melt occurred, year to date.Īreas along the coast are masked out because the satellite sensor’s resolution is not fine enough to distinguish ice from land when a pixel overlaps the coast. The Daily Melt image (left) shows where the surface of the Greenland Ice Sheet showed melt on that day. Update 8/11/20: Version 2 is done! The biggest change is that it now corrects color issues that would happen with certain image formats. The Greenland melt images here are updated daily, with a one-day lag. ![]() (Solution from Chris N.) If you do set the time to one day, you can ignore the Windows Registry step. This may be solved in future updates, but for now, you can set the slideshow time to one day to lower the amount the window flickers. ![]() Update 3/27/19: Due to a new Chrome update, using the image slideshow may cause Chrome windows to flicker. If you have any advice for me, I’d love to hear it! ![]() I hope you enjoy and learn a lot from my first instructable. This instructable contains directions for Windows 10 and the files included should mostly be usable for other similar operating systems, but it does require Java.Īll files and releases are available, open-source, on my GitHub. The images are always full of color, and I have yet to see one that does not go perfectly on a 1080p or less display. The NASA Image of the Day is a wonderful source of images from Earth, inside NASA, and distant galaxies. These images are always stunning and the program really adds to your desktop appearance. In this instructable, I will show you how to make a program that changes your computer’s desktop to the most recent NASA Image of the Day. Hello everyone! Welcome to my first instructable.
